These groups will get your child exploring, running, playing, and noticing the changes in the land. We'll ask questions and spend time learning about each other and the land around us. There will be stories, games, and time for imaginative play in the woods and meadows of Huron Natural Area.
Several groups are co-facilitated with some of our partners, including Crow Shield Lodge; Wisahkotewinowak; and Jan Sherman, a local Anishinaabe Knowledge Keeper. We value blending Indigenous scientific exploration and knowledge sharing with Western scientific exploration of the Land. Through this two-eyed seeing approach (Mi'kmaq Elder Albert Marshall), we develop a close relationship to the land and to each other, seeing the Land as teacher, friend, mother, ceremony, and pedagogy. In programs where we partner with Indigenous facilitators, participants can expect to learn about (and participate in, as they wish) smudging, drumming, singing, storytelling and other cultural practices as they are offered to the group.
